Border Voices' forthcoming concert - 19th January
We are delighted to publicise Border Voices’ next concert which will be on January 19th at 7pm, in their usual venue of the Priory Church, Leominster. The concert is dedicated to the memory of one of our founder members, Geoff Warren, who sadly died on 16th April, 2022. The concert will be celebrating the work of the greatest composer of Spanish Golden Age polyphony, Tomás Luis de Victoria, with the joyous Missa Dum Complerentur dies Pentecostes. The mass takes as its basis Victoria’s own eponymous motet, expanding it from the original five to six voices (seven in the final movement). It was first published by Gardane in Venice in his first book of masses in 1576 and was so popular that it was republished in Rome in 1583. In addition to the mass and its motet, a selection of some of Victoria’s most moving motets will be presented, some seasonal, all exceptional. Saturday 30th November - Workshop for singers.
Katy Silverman, a tutor new to BMEMF led us wonderfully in a workshop of the music of Edmund Hooper and Orlando Gibbons. Katy was a splendid tutor - confident, friendly, encouraging and good-humoured, but at the same time demanding enough to persuade us to up our game. She gave us just the right amount of information about the composers and the background to the music. The Bridges Centre in Monmouth was a good venue and the day ran very smoothly, enhances as ever by the refreshments and cake from Amanda and Sarah.
